ACI Worldwide, a Florida-based payment system company recently announced that’s its mobile payment technology will support the Pay-in-Aisle App of the UK-based convenience food retailer company, Co-operative Group, cite sources.
Reportedly, the mobile app will be launched across 30 Co-operative food stores in Scotland, Wales and England. The app will utilize the Mobile Commerce SDK, which is a part of UP eCommerce Payments solution by ACI Worldwide.
For the record, ACI has stood as a strategic partner for Co-operative Group, when it comes to supporting launch of several innovative initiatives. Co-operative Group was the first in UK to introduce both contactless cards and chip-&-pin in the country. The retailer has been using UP Merchant Solutions by ACI, for its card processing operations & to secure payments data of its customers via P2PE (Point-2-Point Encryption). A cloud-based wallet service is also provided by ACI for Co-operative Group’s loyalty membership scheme.
Andrew Quartermaine, V.P., ACI Worldwide, was reportedly quoted saying that demand for flexible payment methods is increasing in consumers and paying through mobile apps is becoming more common in the UK, especially among millennials and in urban areas. The company has a successful track record of providing innovative merchant payment capabilities, and the company is elated to partner with Co-operative Group for the new venture.
Quartermaine added that security is the necessity for consumers and a paramount for merchants, hence, customer’s data of Co-operative Group will be protected by ACI’s technology, irrespective of what payment method is being used.
As per sources close to the matter, this app will enable customers to scan products on their own device while shopping, the product cost can be paid via Google Pay or Apple Pay, by a simple touch of a button. This technology sits alongside existing payment methods, including self-scan tills and cashiers.
Mark Pettigrew, director of Retail Support, Co-operative Group, was reported to state that the retailers should be agile and adapt with the growing technology and this app will add convenience to the retail experience.
