Mavenir deploys messaging & voice solution for Rakuten Link app

Mavenir, the only cloud-native end-to-end network software provider in the industry for CSPs (Communications Service Providers), reportedly announced the successful deployment of its next-generation messaging and voice solution as a part of Rakuten Link, the communication app of Rakuten Mobile.

Rakuten Link is an innovative communication platform that is based on GSMA Rich Communication Services (RCS) standards. Rakuten Link enables its users to make international and domestic calls to other mobiles and fixed lines, receiving and sending SMS messages across Japan as well as overseas while other Over The Top (OTT) messaging applications provide communication only between the users.

Rakuten link also supports other basic communication features like group chat, receiving and sending photos, files, and videos. All the aforementioned communications features are operational while the user has a cellular network or is connected to a Wi-Fi.

Representative Director, CTO, and Executive Vice President of Rakuten Mobile, Tareq Amin stated that the company’s exceptional network architecture that is cloud-based enables flexible deployment of novel services like Rakuten Link. Collaborating with Mavenir to deploy the next-generation messaging and voice services is a massive milestone for the company. 

Amin further added that pushing disruptive innovation such as this one in the telecommunications industry would position the company to offer more flexible, competitive, and stable services to its subscribers in Japan.

CEO and President of Mavenir, Pardeep Kohli stated that the company’s cloud-based, virtualized RCS solution allowed the company to support Rakuten Mobile rapidly and more easily provide messaging and voice infrastructure forming a part of the network launch in 2020. 

Kohli further added that the company’s full virtualized RCS application client and application server would enable Rakuten Mobile to rollout new and innovative services more easily for its subscribers and enterprises.

The deployment of the solution also includes the company’s 5G-ready platform which monetizes messaging and voice for international and domestic roaming at a lesser cost, the integration of single sign-on through Rakuten ID, and is entirely cloud-based with Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) deployed on Rakuten Mobile platform.
