Quantum Spatial selected by NOAA for a new shoreline mapping contract

NV5 a renowned provider of technical engineering as well as consulting solutions, has reportedly announced that Quantum Spatial, Inc, an NV5 company, has been chosen as main contractor under the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Shoreline mapping contract.
The contract, worth $18.8 million, to perform services of shoreline mapping includes the processing and collection of bathymetric and topographic LiDAR data and aerial images and it would also cover the Florida Panhandle, Guam, the North Carolina Coast and segments of the Northern Mariana Islands of the Commonwealth.
Quantum Spatial, as a program manager, would be accountable for data analytics, data processing, data acquisition and quality control. The data that would be obtained under this contract would be used by Coastal Mapping Program by Remote Sensing Division of National Geodetic Survey, particularly to update the Nautical Charts of NOAA after the 2018 storm events, which include Hurricane Michael, Hurricane Florence and Typhoon Yutu.
Mike Aslaksen, Chief of the Remote Sensing Division, National Geodetic Survey of NOAA, stated that topobathy LiDAR data obtained under this project would be critical in understanding coastal variations caused by Hurricanes Michael & Florence as well as Typhoon Yutu, and would also confirm safe navigation by upgrading shorelines and near shore features of the nautical charts along with supporting mapping and modeling of inundation.
Aslaksen further stated that the data would also be available for the public through web access portals hosted by NOAA, once it has been processed.
Dickerson Wright, PE, Chairman and CEO, NV5, stated that the advancements of Quantum Spatial in data collection, proprietary algorithms and software would continue to extend of whatever would be feasible in the geospatial data analytics.
Wright further stated that advancements in the fields like topobathy LiDAR, which is build upon reputation of Quantum Spatial as one of the leading geospatial data firm, positions the company favorably for these major contracts.
Russ Faux, Sr. VP, Quantum Spatial, stated that the company would be deploying the best topobathymetric LiDAR sensors available for this program. The company is thrilled to be leading a project that would provide critical information to improve coastal intelligence, public safety and resiliency in areas that have been affected by the hurricanes.
