Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc., began the company’s event with the announcement of the new HomePod mini. It is an affordable version of the Siri-powered HomePod smart speaker. As the name suggests, the HomePod mini is comparatively much smaller than the HomePod. Following the first announcement, the company announced the iPhone 12 series that will be the first 5G compatible Apple phones.
The iPhone 12 series will feature OLED displays. This new series will have the A14 Bionic SoC of Apple, which the tech-giant claims enable console-quality gaming. Additionally, Apple came up with a treat for gaming enthusiasts. It announced that League of Legends: Wild Rift, a hugely popular PC game with a big eSports community, is coming to iPhone later this year. The iPhone 12 will also have MagSafe wireless charging technology that can support up to 15W wireless charging.
The HomePod mini comes with the Apple-designed S5 processor. The company claims that the device has computational audio technology to optimize the sound for the room. Moreover, if an individual place two HomePod mini devices in the same room, they will intelligently become a stereo pair. The device supports Apple Podcasts, Apple Music, and third-party services like TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and Amazon Music. Apple states that Siri is better than earlier with HomePod mini.
iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, are the four models of the iPhone 12 series. The 64Gb base variant of the iPhone 12 mini is priced at $699, and the same variant of iPhone 12 is priced at $799. iPhone 12 Pro 128GB base variant starts at $999, and a similar variant of iPhone 12 Pro Max starts at $1,099.
Along with supporting 5G in the US, the iPhone 12 series supports mmWave 5G too. All smartphones will feature iOS 14 out of the box and A14 Bionic SoC, which is already available in the new iPad Air. Apple claims that its GPU and CPU are fastest among all other smartphones.
