European Data center market is expected to witness an exponential growth in the forthcoming years, owing to the growing development in the industry, and several global investment firms showing a keen interest in the European data center firms. The industry is also witnessing collaborations and acquisitions lately. Digital Realty, a renowned US-based real estate investment firm committed to investing in carrier-neutral data centers, reportedly announced the acquisition of Interxion, a renowned European carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data center service provider, for an approximate value of $8.4 billion. Reports cite, the Interxion acquisition is the biggest in the data center market history, exceeding Digital Realty's $7.6 billion procurement of DuPont Fabros Technology. David Ruberg, CEO of Interxion would join Digital Realty's executive team after the acquisition. Ruberg stated that the combination of these companies would make a strong offering for hyperscale cloud platforms; the biggest data center consumers. Ruberg further added that the infrastructure needs of the company's customers are evolving. This evolution has further created more opportunities for companies such as Interxion and Digital to work with them. Ruberg also stated that together, the two firms are in a better position to grab those opportunities and benefit from them than on their own. The relevance that both these companies have as an integrated entity for a few of these behemoths is highly impressive. William Stein, CEO of Digital Realty stated thatthis complementary and strategic transactionfurther builds upon the company's established foundation of delivering market demand for scale, colocation, as well as hyperscale requirements in EMEA, APAC and the Americas. Stein added that the deal would establish an international platform that the company believes would significantly improve its ability of creating long-term value for customers, employees, shareholders of both companies. Digital Realty acquired a major interconnection business through the Telx deal across the US. The Interxion deal, would further make the company a major interconnection player throughout Europe.
