Intel Corporation and Maricopa Community Colleges have reportedly unveiled a new Quick Start program for semiconductor manufacturing at MCC (Mesa Community College).
This initiative will support the surging employment of the semiconductor industry and acquire diverse talent into the workforce. The expedited two-week program trains students to make a credible career as a semiconductor technician equipped with active learning from skillful Intel employees as instructors.
According to Lori Berquam, Ph.D., the Interim President of MCC, the Industrial Technology for the Semiconductor Industry Program expedites the achievement of industry credentials for its students which opens opportunities for in-demand promising careers backing the state and national economy.
Furthermore, the Vice President of Manufacturing and Operations at Intel Zivit Katz-Tsameret expressed that the primary aim of this program is to open new career opportunities to veterans, women, and underrepresented minorities in the manufacturing sector.
The Quick Start program comprises a series of ten classes each spanning four hours. Day and evening alternatives are available. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive an industry-recognized certification, three hours’ worth of college credit towards a related degree along with a USD 270 tuition stipend which covers complete tuition for students in Arizona. Students will have a chance to interview with Intel for full-time positions with allowances.
Intel anticipates that the USD 20 billion investment in two new chip facilities at the Ocotillo campus of the company will create over 3,000 high-remunerating jobs and bolster approximately 15,000 more indirect jobs in the community. The company also intends to increase the number of women employees in technical roles to nearly 40% and double the number of underrepresented monitories and women in senior roles by 2030.
Intel’s collaboration with MCC on the program of the Industrial Technology for the Semiconductor Industry is one part of its efforts to cater to these workforce achievements.
