According to a trademark filing tweeted by Mukul Sharma, a tipster, a mobile payments service, OnePlus Pay, may soon be available in India. This service was 1st announced in 2019 and subsequently launched in China in 2020. The tweet has revealed the trademark filed by the consumer electronics company and its acceptance by the Registrar of Trademarks. It was reportedly filed on 30th March, with no further information regarding the matter.
OnePlus, however, has not provided any official information regarding the mobile payments service launch in the region. Following the anticipated introduction of this service, it will join a variety of other mobile payments services apparently available in the country, including PhonePe, Paytm, and Google Pay. The service is expected to come with a mobile wallet and NFC-based payments, similar to the payment services offered by other rival companies such as Samsung, Google, and Apple.
OnePlus Pay is limited to only China at the moment. Prior to the launch of HydrogenOS, OxygenOS’s China-specific version, the mobile payments service was initially tested for more than 6 months. In order to access the service, OnePlus users are required to set the app as a default NFC-based payments app. The service will later be activated after entering their bank details.
Earlier in 2021, OnePlus unveiled its new offerings such as OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9R, as well as OnePlus Watch in India. The electronics company also has entered a partnership deal with Hasselblad, a Swedish camera brand, for its smartphone series, OnePlus 9 & OnePlus 9 Pro, which are powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC. On the other hand, OnePlus 9R is Snapdragon 870 SoC-powered, with the quad rear camera headlined by a 48-MP primary sensor. Moreover, OnePlus Watch featured an HD AMOLED display of 1.39 inches and can directly receive voice calls & app notifications on the smartwatch.
