Renesas Electronics Corp., a semiconductor manufacturer, has recently unveiled the ZSSC3240 SSC (sensor signal conditioner), the new member of its leading-edge portfolio of SSC.
The new SSC delivers high flexibility, sensitivity, and accuracy for various sensor applications such as medical infrared thermometers and resistive pressure sensors. It features best-in-class speed and performance with over 24 bits ADC (analog-to-digital) resolution.
The ZSSC3240 will be adopted in almost all types of absolute and resistive voltage sensor elements, with a wide range of output interfaces and flexible sensor front end. This enables customers to use an SSC device to create complete sensing platforms. Its small size makes it ideal for use with a variety of devices based on sensors for the medical, consumer, and industrial markets. These devices include continuous smart health monitors, smart meters, factory automation devices, weight scales, HVAC sensors, and industrial pressure transmitters.
Silicon-based and micro-machined sensing elements offer very small and non-linear signals, where conversion of the sensor signal to linearized output requires special technologies. The new SSC facilities the production and design of sensor interfaces by offering quantization, wide gain, highly accurate, and powerful functions, in combination with high-order, powerful digital linearization and correction algorithms. High performance as well as flexible sensor analog output and front-end configuration options enable the design of an easy sensor platform using an IC. This helps customers in leveraging SSC cost-effectively for a range of sensor elements with various characteristics.
The key features of the new ZSSC3240 SSC include superior compensation accuracy with over 24-bit analog-to-digital resolution, high-gain analog front end that supports over 540 V/V, integrated 26-bit digital signal processing for sensor calibration with high precision, 4-20 mA analog voltage outputs, current loop output & digital interfaces as OWI, SPI, & I2C, and on-chip diagnostics for safety and medical applications. It is currently available in a 24-lead, 4mm x 4mm QFN package at $1.57 per unit in 10,000 units of quantities. It is also available in the bare die format.
