RoodMicrotec to expand its SCM services into ASSP devices market

RoodMicrotec GmbH, a leader in the field of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), has reportedly announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with European semiconductor distribution specialist, EBV Elektronik GmbH & German research institute Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS (Fraunhofer IIS).
Reports cite, under the terms of the deal, the enterprises would be collaborating in the production as well as marketing of the Fraunhofer ready-for-use chip IP. EBVchips would be contributing to the collaboration through its marketing & sales platform.
According to a press release by RoodMicrotec, the cooperation also includes new Application-Specific Standard Product (ASSP) devices for the logistics, industrial & home appliance products. The RFicientÂ® would be the first one of the two products & would enable customers to optimize their power-consumption of IoT applications, dramatically enhancing battery lifetime.

The COO of RoodMicrotec, Reinhard Pusch stated that while ASICs are specifically designed & used inside a application for a specific customer, the ASSPs are usually covering an area of application, including a whole host of products for numerous end-customers. Pusch further added that this would be driving significantly higher volumes to be manufactured & managed by the company.
