Construction of the nacelle facility would start in 2020 at a site in Taichung port. The company has achieved an important milestone in the rapidly-growing Asia-Pacific region. Currently, the company has manufacturing facilities and offshore nacelle assembly plants in Denmark and Germany. The nacelle assembly facility in Taiwan is Siemens Gamesa's first site outside of Europe. The portion of land that is being developed in Taiwan measures approximately 30,000 square meters, and will be utilized for nacelle assembly, warehousing, testing, office buildings as well as outdoor storage. The company is also operating closely with Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) to initiate inbound as well as outbound logistics in newly established nearby quaysides. CEO of the Offshore Business Unit in SGRE, Andreas Nauen stated that the strategic investment of the company in Taichung harbor with the nacelle assembly facility continues to run as earlier communicated. Carrying this out ahead of regional content requirement timeframe showcases the confidence of company in the long-term potential of offshore wind for Taiwan as well as other APAC markets. Nauen added that the strong foothold that the company is building in Taiwan will enable it to better meet the needs of its customers across the APAC market as well as in other parts of the region. Reports cite, the production of the company is expected to start in 2021 and the facility would then support 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a projects of Ørsted. These projects will use SG 8.0-167 DD turbine. In later years, the company will provide an option for nacelles supply to other regional projects.
